Maritime Patrol Aircraft
You have a wonderful islands scenery to explore ?
Then this is the right place for you ! And forget about the fuel stops
... those birds can fly longer than you can fend off your relatives. If
ever someone thinks of a way to attack subs in CFS you'll already have
good platforms to use it.
Canadair CP-107 Argus Mk.2

Size: 49 kB
Remark: for the panel visit PEGASUS
History: The Canadair Argus was a maritime patrol aircraft which served
with the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Armed Forces from 1958
to 1980. The last Argus flew in 1982 when aircraft 10742 was delivered
to the National Aviation Museum in Ottawa. The aircraft depicted
is # 742 as it was on its final flight.
It is in the colours of 415 Swordfish Sqn based at CFB Summerside,
Prince Edward Island.
Lockheed SP-2H Neptune
Name: neprcaf.zip
Author: Bob Tremblay
Version: FS98
Size: 1.527 kB
Remark: sound files included
History: The Neptune traces its origins to Lockheed/Vega design studies
starting in 1941 when the Navy first acquired land-based patrol aircraft.
While types modified from other models served WW II needs, in 1944, two
XP2V-ls were ordered, along with 15 production -1 models. These were designed
to overcome the many problems of the redesigned types, providing ample
space for crew and equipment, and adequate range in a straight-forward,
twin-engine design. First flight of the initial XP2V-1 occurred on 12 May
1945. For the following 17 years, Lockheed's flight line was never without
new P2V/P-2 aircraft. Powered by two 2,300-hp Wright R-3350 engines, and
featuring nose, dorsal and tail turrets, the XP2V-1 featured clean lines
that were to continue throughout the P2V series, even though the aircraft
was to grow all manner of electronic and other bumps, and the armament
changed regularly.
Lockheed P-3C Orion
Name: p-3c.zip
Author: Larry Haines
Version: FS98
Size: 163 kB
Remark:
History: On April 1958 the Lockheed corporation won a US Navy competition
to find a replacement for the Navy's aging P2V Neptune series of long range
antisubmarine warfare and maritime patrol aircraft. Lockheed's winning
proposal was designated the P3V Orion. Named for the winter constellation
of the mighty hunter, the Orion was actually derived from the famous Lockheed
Electra civil airliner. The initial production version of the P3 Orion was
designated the P3V-1. The first test model Orion flew on April 15th 1961.
After a brief evaluation period, the US Navy ordered 157 P3V-1 aircraft
from Lockheed. Deliveries began in August 1962 with Patrol Squadron 8 receiving
the very first batch which replaced all their P2V-7 aircraft. Around November
1962 the US Navy revised and changed all aircraft designations. In the
process the P3V-1 was redesignated the P3A.. The Orion is the current ASW
aircraft of the US; attempts to replace it have failed. A downgraded version
was sold to Iran. Canada purchased a version with the avionics developed
for the S-3 Viking, known as 'Aurora'. Four AEW versions of the P-3 with
rotating dorsal radomes are in service with the US Customs Service. Another
AEW version of the P-3, known as the EP-3E, has canoe fairings under and
above the fuselage.
British Aerospace Nimrod MR.2
Name: nimrod-1.zip
Author: Jim Goldman
Version: FS5 / FS98
Size: 171 kB
Remark:
History: Developed from the Comet airliner, designed to combine high
altitude performance and fast transit speed with low wing loading and low
speed maneuvering to provide anti-shipping strike, submarine hunting and
surveillance. They have taken part in two conflicts, the Falklands and
the Gulf Wars. Capable of searching and destroying submarines using the
MAD system and torpedoes dropped by parachute, the Nimrod finds frequent
work these days assisting in long range Air/Sea rescue operations. A version
designated AEW.3 very nearly became Britain's Airborne Early Warning aircraft,
eventually costs and technical difficulties with the systems resulted in
our purchasing American AWACS instead. The flight refuelling probes fitted
to Nimrods were salvaged from the Vulcan fleet as they were being scrapped.
Tupolev Tu-20 "Bear B"
Name: bear-b.zip
Author: Graham "Dotcom" Waterfield
Version: FS5 / FS98
Size: 123 kB
Remark:
History: The Bear "B" is just one of many different variants of this
particular airframe. From the original Bear "A" the basic glazed nose bomber
right through to the modern era of the "Moss" AWACS airframe with
its huge Frizbee radome. Many an RAF Pilot from the 60's to the present
day have tales of encounters with "The Bear" and its well humoured crew
waving current
copies of "Playboy" throught the windows. The Bear had double the range
of its predecessor the "Badger" turbojet and with the eight 18 foot diameter
contra-rotating props was in fact only 47 MPH slower!
This Tupolev Bear carries the signs of AC Morskaya (Naval) Aviatsya.
This space is reserved for: Breguet Atlantique 1
Does anybody know of such an FS aircraft ?
